The day Su Nian died, all thirty-seven people at school heard Lin Yao’s thoughts at the same time: “I deleted the security footage. No one saw her. There’s no way she could know.”
Su Nian hadn’t killed herself. Someone had pushed her off the rooftop. The killer was in the classroom. And the first thing she did after dying was make everyone hear one another’s secrets.
Only Gu Yan knew the truth: Su Nian wasn’t quite dead. She had scattered her consciousness through the minds of all thirty-seven people, hiding a clue in every thought. Gu Yan’s task was to piece them together and find the killer before the screenwriter finished Chapter Eighteen, because in the ending the screenwriter had written, she was the next one to die.
The clues surfaced one by one: the scar on Su Nian’s forehead matched one on Gu Yan’s wrist; Su Nian’s desk held no textbooks, only a red cord tied to a silver bell and a human tooth; and suddenly, Lin Yao was missing a tooth.
Later, Gu Yan found one of Su Nian’s exam papers. The name “Su Nian” had been crossed out, and two words were written beside it: Screenwriter.
And those two words were in Gu Yan’s own handwriting.
It's super interesting, super brain-burning, and I'm anxious to know the follow-up.
