While others scheme and struggle to climb the official ladder, Bai Chengyuan just wants to slack off and coast through his job.
But his talent is so exceptional that it draws suspicion, and even catches the emperor's eye. A single imperial edict sees his family property confiscated and him exiled, forcing him into the game.
When his family is humiliated and his clan wrongfully accused, he finally awakens, puts aside his easygoing ways, and shows his true mettle.
He solves bizarre cases, reforms the bureaucracy, takes command of the military, and purges his enemies. He rises against the odds, unstoppable.
His hidden connections emerge one after another, while confidantes lend him their wholehearted support. The good-for-nothing of yesterday becomes a top-tier star at court.
Emperor: I just want to force you to work hard as an official!
Corrupt minister: Please, stop climbing the ladder! We can't take it anymore!
Bai Chengyuan: If I'd known I'd become the Imperial Preceptor, I wouldn't have slacked off in the first place!
Watch as he uses political cunning to bring the realm to heel and his skill to command the court, ultimately becoming a powerful minister of his age and writing a spectacular tale of an underdog's rise!
