Programmer Lin Yue moves into an old apartment complex with unbelievably cheap rent to save money.
On his first night, he receives the first rule in the Residents’ Handbook: No lights or working after 10 p.m. The elevator will take you up one extra floor if you break this rule.
He doesn’t believe it and secretly opens his laptop...
Sure enough, the elevator stops on the 13th floor. A neighbor in pajamas stands outside the doors and hands him a note:
“Welcome to the Night Management Committee. You’re on duty tonight.”
From then on, Lin Yue works a 996 schedule during the day. At night, he competes with ghost neighbors for parking spaces, helps a cat demon fix its Wi-Fi, and reports cultivator residents who stay up past curfew.
Until he discovers that beneath the complex’s foundations lies the source of the rules governing an entire city…
