Modern engineer Shen Mingzhou, his wife Su Wanning, a senior executive at a multinational company, and their elementary-school-aged daughter Shen Xingyao, unexpectedly transmigrate to an ancient fictional dynasty. The three of them become the least welcome members of the Shen family in Taohua Village. Their original body's father was a gambling addict who racked up debts, leaving his wife and daughter hungry, while their uncle's family schemed to drive them out and divide up the family property.
Looking at their leaky earthen house and his daughter, her face pale with hunger, Shen Mingzhou rolls up his sleeves. Starting from scratch? That’s what a 35-year-old engineer is best at: turning blueprints into reality.
Su Wanning takes one look at the village market and gives a slight smile. On the negotiating table at a multinational company, hasn’t every opponent been a crafty operator? This ancient countryside will be a piece of cake.
Holding the wild fruit she picked up, Shen Xingyao blinks. “Mom, Dad, I can help you keep the books! I’m really good at math at school!”
And so, in this unfamiliar ancient world, the family of three embarks on a hardcore entrepreneurial journey.
Dad improves farming tools, invents cement, and builds waterwheels, getting three acres’ worth of harvest from one poor acre of land. Mom opens up trade routes, organizes caravans, and negotiates prices, selling local specialties to the prefectural city a thousand miles away. Their daughter becomes the family’s “little bookkeeper,” doing mental arithmetic faster than an abacus and teaching the village children to read and count on the side.
From being the “down-and-out family” looked down on by the entire village to becoming the famous Shen Trading House, known far and wide; from a single leaky earthen house to a chain of shops spanning three provinces; from being driven to the brink by their clan to making everyone who once bullied them wish they could curry favor with them...
With modern know-how and teamwork, this family of three blazes a prosperous path through the ancient world!
