In the forty-third year of the Wanli reign, in Qinggeng Village in northern Jiangsu, farm girl Shen Qinghe struggles with poverty. Her husband, Lin Yan, was left disabled and mentally impaired after bandits attacked him, and people regard him as a “fool.” After an accident, Lin Yan suddenly regains his senses and claims to be Lin Yan, an agricultural engineer from 2023 who transmigrated into this body after a laboratory accident.
At first, Shen Qinghe is skeptical, but Lin Yan gradually earns her trust by using modern agricultural techniques to improve dry fields, grow high-yield sweet potatoes, make sesame candy, and upgrade the loom. Shen Qinghe uses her intelligence and resilience to conceal his identity, resolve disputes, and support his innovations. Lin Yan, in turn, goes from being an outsider to fitting into village life, leading the villagers to overcome drought and prosper, build a school, and open workshops, giving back to the land.
Together, they face drought, oppression by the powerful, and clashes in their ways of thinking. She protects their home with the wisdom of surviving in the old days, while he uses scientific knowledge to break through every obstacle. From strangers to understanding one another, from surviving alone to moving forward together, they save each other and fall deeply in love.
This is a story of two people finding their way to each other across time. Neither saves the other alone; they simply illuminate one another. In the soil of Qinggeng Village, they plant a peaceful life where technology and tenderness flourish side by side.
