I Became a Spoiled Stepmother in the 1970s, but Hard Work Turned My Life Around

After becoming a fussy stepmother in the 1970s, Su Wan finds herself in hell from the start: her cold-faced military officer husband doesn’t trust her, her stepson and stepdaughter are twins who treat her like an enemy, and her birth family is watching her like a hawk.

No space, no System, no golden finger.

Su Wan relies on her hardworking hands and clever mind to turn wild greens into fragrant cornbread, patch little flowers onto worn-out clothes, coax a little girl who’s afraid of thunder into her arms, and make their cold, dreary home bright and tidy.

Her husband goes from watching coldly to handing over his entire salary. Her stepchildren go from “You’re a bad person” to calling her “Mom” for the first time. Her neighbors go from laughing at her to being thoroughly impressed.

Difficult relatives come to cause trouble? She settles the accounts in public and cuts ties. A scheming female soldier tries to flirt with her husband? Su Wan calmly lets her humiliate herself. The hypocritical original heroine wants to use her as a foil? Su Wan gives her a lesson in how to behave.

Raising children, running a household, growing vegetables, making shoes, starting a literacy class, getting into university, opening a tailoring shop... She takes every step steadily, turning the hard days of the 1970s into the best time of her family’s life.

“There are no wasted steps in life. Every step counts.”

This is the story of a woman with no cheats, only real skills, putting down roots and blossoming amid the everyday bustle of life.

In a nutshell: A modern woman becomes a fussy stepmother in the 1970s. With no golden finger, she relies on hard work and brains to make a living, raises her stepchildren into top students, and makes her cold-faced military officer husband eat his words.
