On Our Wedding Day, the General Pretending to Be Disabled and I Exposed Each Other’s Secret Identities

I was once the “Ghost Doctor” of Cloudmist Mountain, and he was a “crippled” general in the capital.

An imperial marriage decree, each of us with our own agenda, made us husband and wife, as well as each other’s greatest secret.

My name is Yun Yinyue, the legitimate daughter of the Duke of Zhenguo. I was sent away as a child because of a “heart condition.” The world knows only that I’m frail, not that I’m the mysterious Ghost Doctor “Lord of the Clouds” in the martial world. He is Lu Chenzhou, a renowned general who was gravely wounded and disabled after incurring the emperor’s suspicions, and now spends his days in a wheelchair. Everyone pities me for marrying a cripple.

On our wedding night, the red candles burned bright. He suddenly spoke, his voice cool and clear. “Madam, you don’t have to pretend. I know you’re the Ghost Doctor.”

My fingers paused. I raised my eyes to meet his. “You’re no less impressive, General. That leg of yours...is it tiring to keep up the act?”

The candle crackled, and we looked at each other and smiled.

It turned out he had long known that I possessed exceptional skills. It turned out I had already recognized the scent of his family’s secret wound medicine on him. Two people wearing perfect masks had recognized a kindred spirit in each other through their lies.

From then on, we played the part of “the frail general and the bride who brought him good fortune” in public. He coughed up blood, and I fed him medicine, putting on a convincing show of marital devotion. In private, we shared shadow guards, investigated strange cases, and faced dangerous situations together. He found me warm jade from the Heavenly Mountain to treat my sensitivity to cold, while I tended to his old injuries. Behind the screens, the scent of medicine and our everyday conversations slowly warmed our frozen hearts.

Yet undercurrents churned through the capital. The First Prince watched us like a hawk, and the emperor’s suspicions ran deep as the sea. The truth behind the poison that had made me “sick” and driven me from home, his helpless need to protect himself, and the difficult choices between family and loyalty... The storm raged, and every step was fraught with danger.

But he said, “As husband and wife, we should weather the storm together.”

I said, “All right, then I’ll walk this bloody road with you...”
