Shattered Light

When I got pregnant before marriage, I bet everything on my love, believing we would stay together for life; I gave everything to build a home for us, only to be repaid with betrayal and lies from the person beside me in bed. Disaster struck without warning. Family ties turned cold, and everyone’s true colors came out. On the day we divorced, I had nothing. I left with no assets, and even my tears seemed unnecessary. I fell from the clouds into the mud. I had loved, hurt, hated, and despaired. I gathered up the pieces of myself and headed south alone, drifting from place to place. I thought there would be no light left in my life, until a light marked with scars pierced the long darkness and fell upon my mud-streaked path. It turns out the most painful thing isn’t losing everything. It’s that, amid the ruins, I still dare to love again, and can still become my own light.
