The 1970s: I Turned an Army Camp Into a Hidden Paradise

Food blogger Lin Xiaomai transmigrates into the 1970s as the wife of a soldier. Her dream of military life never gets the chance to come true. Instead, she is hit with a life of scarce food and threadbare clothes: a leaky family compound, hungry little ones, and a husband tormented by an old leg injury.

Luckily, the "Embroidered Haven" she carries with her suddenly unlocks. From then on, the military compound's backstreets echo with more than just drill calls. While other families gnaw on cornmeal buns, the aroma of red-braised pork drifts from her courtyard. While others fret over buying a bolt of cloth, her yard is already full of free-range chickens, and fresh vegetables and fruit are available in every season.

With her cooking skills and knack for fixing things, she turns their little home into a thriving household and even heals her husband's old injury along the way. When her husband, the regiment commander known as the cold-faced King of Hell, not only recovers but also starts looking rosy-cheeked and rushing home every day, the whole military district is stunned.

The political commissar grabs him. "Gu Changlin, do you have any chickens left? I'll pay double!"

Gu Changlin scowls. "No. My wife raised those to build me back up."

But then he turns around and quietly asks, "Xiaomai, shouldn't we apply for that piece of wasteland behind the house too? I think we could raise two more pigs..."

From an unwanted burden no one paid any attention to, to the military wives' gold standard, Lin Xiaomai proves that with a pocket dimension and cooking skills, even the harshest times can become a poem.
