I Exorcise Ghosts at the Funeral Home

Three years ago, the “Yellow Springs Rift” appeared, throwing the worlds of the living and the dead into chaos. Vengeful ghosts ran rampant, and indescribable “rules-based entities” began seeping into the human world. In Daxia, the ancient underworld collapsed, but new guardians emerged: the “Soul Ferrymen.”

Lu Chen inherits a dilapidated funeral home, with an underground passage leading to the “Nine Nether Space,” where eight powerful ghosts are imprisoned. He can guide them to the afterlife, draw upon their abilities, and unlock reincarnation. From a bride who died unjustly to a veteran of the war against the Japanese, from a silenced opera singer to a Jinyiwei officer who has waited four hundred years, every client carries an unfulfilled wish, and every crossing is an act of redemption.

“Within Daxia, the dead shall find their place. At the Yellow Springs Rift, evil spirits shall not pass!”

When a senior judge among the Soul Ferrymen betrays his post and opens the rift to welcome foreign gods, Lu Chen offers himself as a sacrifice. Between the Nine Nether and the human world, he finds a third path: not sealing the dead away, not destroying them, but ensuring every soul can make a dignified journey to the afterlife.

This is a story about a funeral director, the dead, and their guardians. The dead need help crossing over, and so do the living.
