Jiang Mi is a first-year law student with a bewitching, “foxy” face, but deep down she’s a naive romantic, straightforward and starved for affection. At first sight, she falls for Shen Yanzhou, a gentle and refined graduate student, convinced she has finally found the one. Little does she know that the abstinent heartthrob adored by all the girls on campus harbors a twisted devil within. He stalks her, monitors her, and uses self-harm to control her, turning “love” into a prison.
When Jiang Mi finally sees the truth and flees in fear, Shen Yanzhou cuts his wrist with broken glass on a rainy night, and everything spirals out of control. She transfers to another school, while he undergoes psychological treatment. They go their separate ways.
Five years later, they meet again. Jiang Mi is now a family law attorney who specializes in cases involving coercive control. Shen Yanzhou stayed on at the university as a teacher. He appears to have “recovered,” but he has never stopped trying to atone. He begins a clumsy, cautious campaign to win her back, not by repeating his past mistakes, but by examining his own pathology with professional help and honesty, accepting psychological intervention, and gradually learning how to love someone in a healthy way.
From fear to tentative trust, from trauma to healing, two broken souls find their way back to each other on the boundary between love and law. In the end, they understand that true love is not possession, but letting the other person breathe freely.
