Lu Jiajia thinks the biggest trial of her life was being shoved by her grandfather into the Gu family, the wealthiest in Beijing, as their young mistress.

Faced with a mansion spanning thousands of square meters, she looks at the empty yard and shakes her head. “It'd be a shame not to plant scallions in such good soil.”

On their first day as newlyweds, her nominal husband, Gu Yunshen, a cold, germaphobic trillion-yuan CEO, hands her a “No Falling in Love” agreement. Lu Jiajia pulls out half a head of garlic, grabs a bowl of corn grits porridge, and signs without a care. “Don't worry, buddy. You look pretty weak to me, so I'm more worried you'll try something on me in the middle of the night!”

Too many rules in this wealthy family? A scheming socialite posing as his first love whines and cries every day? A vicious mother-in-law lays down the law at every turn?

Lu Jiajia isn't worried in the slightest. When the fake first love pretends to be weak and falls, she grabs her by the hair and sends her straight to the orthopedic ward for a cast. “An underdeveloped cerebellum needs early treatment!” When her mother-in-law calls her uncouth and refuses to let her sit at the table, Lu Jiajia turns the master bedroom into a traditional heated kang bed, sets up a huge iron pot, and cooks pork ribs and green beans with sticky corn dumplings. It smells so good that her mother-in-law knocks on her door in the middle of the night, begging for a bite.

Lu Jiajia plans to return to her hometown in Northeast China after a year and take over the family pig farm. But who could have guessed that Gu Yunshen, the aloof, Buddha-like man who once acted invincible in public and even measured the temperature of his drinking water, would put on a red-and-green floral padded jacket and cling desperately to her suitcase? “Honey, don't go. We haven't finished pickling the cabbage from yesterday. Today we have to stomp it into the crock!”
