Years in Hua'an

In Nianzishan, Heilongjiang, the Hu'an Factory has weathered fifty years of ups and downs, preserving the most passionate years and human connections of a generation of military industry workers. Chen Shanhe rose from apprentice to the most capable buyer in the factory's Supply Department. Quick-witted, socially astute, and principled, he held the lifeline of scarce supplies in an era of shortages and shifting tides. Yet all his life, he walked a tightrope between public and private, feeling and reason, profit and justice. He traveled far and wide to solve the factory's problems and stand up for his neighbors. Through workplace rivalries and the surging tide of the times, he weathered many rises and falls. Temptation never led him astray, and through every storm he held fast to his conscience.
