Siheyuan: I, Yi Tieshan, Don’t Play by the Rules!

Yi Tieshan, a twenty-three-year-old delivery rider, is sent flying by a heavy truck while saving a little girl. When he opens his eyes again, he is an orphan in rural Hebei in 1959. All he has in his pocket is a yellowed letter: “Your eldest brother, Yi Zhonghai, works at the Beijing Steel Mill. He's a Level Eight fitter. If you need anything, go to him.” Wait, Yi Zhonghai? The courtyard house? Silly Zhu? Qin Huairu? Isn't this that TV drama he used to watch?! Yi Tieshan makes up his mind on the spot: he'll go live with his uncle and look after him until the end. Naturally, the family property will be his! He'll also use his memories from his past life to stock up on food, get through the three hard years and the Cultural Revolution, then make a fortune doing whatever he likes once reform and opening up begin. The perfect lie-flat plan is underway! But he never imagined that everyone in this courtyard would be more trouble than the last. Jia Zhangshi rolls around on the ground, cursing him as a freeloader. Xu Damao makes snide remarks, accusing him of coming to mooch. Qin Huairu only has to glance around before setting her sights on him as a strong pair of hands. What kind of person is Yi Tieshan? In his past life, he delivered food while dealing with security guards, dodging city inspectors, and fighting bad reviews. What hasn't he seen? Jia Zhangshi runs her mouth? He slams the table: “I'm taking care of Uncle Yi and Auntie Yi. What the hell does that have to do with you?” Xu Damao picks a fight? Yi Tieshan claps a hand on his shoulder, and Xu Damao's legs give out as he drops to the ground. “Say that again?” Qin Huairu tries to cozy up to him? He doesn't even lift his eyes. “Sister-in-law, that trick won't work on me.” At the whole-courtyard meeting, he lounges in the center seat with his legs crossed, watching the show over his enamel mug. Everyone in the courtyard says the new guy plays dirty. Yi Tieshan grins. “My greatest virtue is laziness. If I can avoid throwing a punch, I will. But if anyone messes with me, I'll show them exactly why flowers are so red!”
