Republican Era: The Yunnan Army’s Young Marshal Feeds 100,000 Soldiers With Potatoes

A bolt of lightning sent Tang Shaobai, a botanist with a PhD, transmigrating to a parallel-world China during the warlord era.

He became Tang Shaobai, the nephew of Tang Jiyao.

Using his botanical expertise, he first fooled his political enemies’ surveillance by pretending to be crazy and using a sensitive plant. Then, on the western Yunnan frontier, he refined the poison of the strychnine tree, giving Tang Jiyao’s personal guard a silent new weapon.

He also drew on palynology, a Western science, to trace plant spores on a spy’s shoes and wipe out all thirteen of the secret agents Yuan Zuming, the Guizhou warlord, had planted in Kunming.

In 1922, on the road to becoming a warlord of the chaotic age, he moved carefully at every turn: training a powerful army, seizing strategic locations, crafting deadly weapons, and killing the Japanese invaders!
