The Director Picked Up a Son from a Meteorite Crater

On March 17, 2000, a streak of white light split the night sky over the Kanto Plain. United Nations Secretary-General Soichiro Sawai rushed to the impact site and, in a crater two hundred meters wide, found himself a son. A white carapace cracked apart. A young monster transformed into a human baby, whose golden eyes gazed upon the world for the first time. Sawai didn’t send him to a laboratory. He registered him as his son. [Photon purity: 300% of the theoretical limit] [Energy wavelength: A perfect match for the remains of the ultra-ancient civilization from thirty million years ago] [Disguise status: Perfect] In seven years, Hui learned one thing: how to snuff himself out. His fingers glowed during a blackout? He pressed the light back in within three seconds. He knew the answers to a test without even thinking? He deliberately added three extra steps to make his work look like that of an “average student.” He stepped on the sensor network beneath the floor of TPC headquarters? He shortened his stride by two centimeters, adjusted the pressure of his heels, and landed precisely within normal parameters. But 2,400 kilometers away, a giant stone statue that had slept for thirty million years awoke. A photon resonance pierced half the Japanese archipelago and slammed into his bones. He sat on the windowsill eating watermelon, his entire right arm burning and trembling. Sawai said only four words over the phone: “Keep yourself in check.” Hui clenched his fist and pressed the light back beneath his skin. ...But the photons no longer wanted to be held down.
