Farming in a Strange Land

With Cang Mountain as their neighbor and Erhai Lake as their companion, newlyweds Lin Laoshi and Su Wanniang live in a farmhouse in Dali Prefecture, Yunnan, during the Wanli era of the Ming dynasty. They receive half a mu of ancestral farmland and hope to spend their days planting spring crops and raising a family in peace. But overnight, the ancestral plot becomes magical soil. Vegetables ripen in a single night, buried money sprouts into a money tree, and when the husband buries his legs, he grows tall and strong; when the wife buries her head, she becomes clever and perceptive. Then a wondrous stroke of fate: a single seed buried in the earth gives birth to ten baby boys with extraordinary abilities. They regard the couple as their parents, are sweet and dutiful, and each protects the family in his own way. The family of twelve tends the land and makes a warm home together, but their greedy uncle and aunt grow jealous and frame them. The Zhang family, wealthy landowners in Dali, also covet the magical plot and use their power to seize it by force. The honest couple and their ten sons protect their home with kindness and fight evil with intelligence. With their magical field and united hearts, they defend their home to the last, cultivating a heartwarming rural legend between Cang Mountain and Erhai Lake.
