He Refuses to Turn Back

Shen Zhaoning, the ruthless, icy, and merciless queen of the business world, had a secret: a contracted lover hidden away at home.

Gu Yanzhi, her private secretary, was gentle and obedient, like a cup of warm water that was always just the right temperature. Everyone thought he was a pretty boy clinging to power. Only Shen Zhaoning knew how much unspoken devotion lay beneath that perfect face.

Three years ago, she bound him to her with a contract, all because his eyes looked so much like her unattainable first love's.

Three years later, as she gazed at a photo of that first love and said, “You're still the best,” Gu Yanzhi heard every word.

That day, he calmly handed in his resignation, paid the contract's threefold penalty, and disappeared from her world without a trace.

Shen Zhaoning thought he was only a substitute. If he wanted to leave, then let him.

Until she couldn't find the files only he knew how to organize, couldn't get the coffee made just the way she liked it, and, after getting drunk at a late-night business dinner, found herself calling a name that was no longer her first love's, but “Yanzhi.”

She panicked.

She began trying to win him back, awkwardly setting aside her pride. The extravagant gifts she sent were returned. Her business tactics were thwarted. Even when she went to his newly opened cafe, she had to wait three hours in line, only to hear him say politely and distantly, “Your coffee is ready, ma'am.”

And what drove her to despair even more was that someone genuinely warm had appeared at his side.

When he smiled and said, “I'm learning to live my own life,” Shen Zhaoning finally understood: the cruelest revenge in the world isn't hatred. It's indifference.

What would it take for her to make the man whose heart she'd broken turn back and look at her again?
