Quick Transmigration: Sun Wukong, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Travels to Other Worlds

Question: Sun Wukong was sentenced to five hundred years of confinement beneath Five Elements Mountain. Trapped there, cut off from worldly affairs and with no books to read, how could he suddenly become so adept at navigating human relationships, so worldly and perceptive, when his sentence ended?

Patriarch Bodhi smiled faintly, sweeping his sleeve as he revealed the answer: He couldn’t, of course.

There was only one truth.

Just before the Buddha Tathagata raised his palm to pin Sun Wukong beneath Five Elements Mountain, Patriarch Bodhi secretly intervened. At the time, Sun Wukong was still arrogantly shouting, “I, Old Sun, have leapt beyond the Three Realms and am not bound by the Five Elements! Why use Five Elements Mountain on me? It can’t even touch a single hair on my body!”

Patriarch Bodhi glanced at him coolly. “Enough insolence. Hand it over!”

With a casual gesture, he fashioned a clay monkey and cast an illusion to take Wukong’s place beneath the mountain for those five hundred years. Then he took his true beloved disciple with him into three thousand pocket worlds, letting him broaden his horizons and learn to read people through worldly trials.

The Patriarch was no native of the Three Realms. His cultivation ground was called Fangcun Mountain, and his sect was known as the Celestial Sect Beyond the Heavens.

Five hundred years passed. Patriarch Bodhi returned with his disciple, giving the Three Realms a transformed Great Sage Equal to Heaven, one who understood the ways of the world. This time, he had not only the arrogance to wreak havoc in the Celestial Palace, but also the insight to see into people’s hearts.

Note: The first three volumes come with no experience to draw on. When he first enters the pocket worlds, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven’s defiant nature leads him to keep suffering setbacks. He only turns things around in the fourth world. If you don’t like a slow start, feel free to begin with Volume Four.
