The Moon Over Zhongnan: He Said He'd Take Me to See the Blossoms

She is a reclusive medical immortal from Zhongnan Mountain. She saves the seventh prince, who is poisoned and near death. The crescent-moon jade pendant at his waist looks just like the half pendant given to her ten years ago by the boy who promised to take her to see Chang’an in full bloom.

For three months, she treats his poison, using golden needles to channel her energy at the cost of ten years of her life. In his unconsciousness, he keeps calling out “A Yue,” but she pretends not to hear.

After he recovers, he takes out half a jade pendant. It fits perfectly with the other half she has kept hidden. “Are you A Yue?” Her medicine hoe falls to the ground, but she says coldly, “My name is Suxin. You have the wrong person.”

He promises to return once he has escaped the palace. She gives no reply. Not long after, he is defeated in the struggle for the throne and dies on the road to exile.

She burns all his belongings, reducing even her half of the jade pendant to ashes. Afterward, she spends three years at his grave, her hair turning silver.

In the winter of the twenty-sixth year of Jinghe, as snow falls thickly, she finally speaks while bent over his gravestone: “I waited for you. I’m A Yue.”

It’s too late. Chang’an may bloom more brilliantly than ever, but the man who promised to show her the flowers is lost forever in the snowstorm.
