A car accident sends Wei Dandan, still a college student, into a book. Its world is a parallel version of the 1980s. The original owner's parents are honest and hardworking, but are bullied by the eldest and second branches of the family. Her grandmother favors those two branches, a pack of horrible relatives, and is egged on into selling the original owner to Er Zhuzi, a lame old bachelor next door. The money is meant to find wives for her two cousins and arrange their marriages. When the original owner refuses, her grandmother beats her to death.
The mastermind behind the original owner's tragic fate is Su Manman, her close friend who calls her sister every day. Su Manman is also the heroine of the book. She envies the original owner for having loving parents and an older brother who sends her nice things from time to time.
Only after the original owner dies can Su Manman marry her older brother, Wei Jianjun. Everything the original owner has will then be hers. Thinking of the family being led around by Su Manman, Wei Dandan seethes with rage.
She'll take down that fake innocent and shatter her dreams.
Looking at this maddening family, Wei Dandan realizes that if they don't split the household, the third branch will be left with nothing but bones.
They have to split up. As a bona fide college graduate who has landed in the most backward 1980s, she has to make money and lead the honest, simple members of the third branch away from this family of bloodsuckers, so they can enjoy meat at every meal.
Wei Dandan looks at the man blocking her way. “You're the rich playboy who hit me back then.”
Gu Yanting: “To make up for hurting you, how about you marry me? I'll make sure you can do whatever you want in the 1980s.”
Wei Dandan curls her lip. “I'm not a crab. And even if I wanted to walk sideways, I can do that on my own.”
