Who Let Him Become the Sect Leader?!

Lin Wan, former chairman of an anti-overwork association at a major internet company, dies of exhaustion and wakes up as the newly appointed sect leader of Lingxiao Sect. Once the greatest sword sect in the land, it now clings to its ranking through a brutal system where “disciples cultivate around the clock, and four hundred die after a century of training.” On his very first day in office, Lin Wan abolishes the three-thousand-year-old rule requiring cultivation at midnight. He brings modern workplace thinking to the sect: introducing an eight-hour workday, paid leave for tribulations of the heart, an interest-based points system for cultivation in place of arduous training, and even full employee benefits for spirit beasts. Conservative elders accuse him of undermining the sect’s foundations, while rival sects laugh that he’s courting ruin. But the numbers don’t lie: after the reforms, the disciples’ rate of sudden enlightenment soars by 300%, their success rate in overcoming tribulations doubles, and the concentration of spiritual energy rises against all odds. When the “Celestial Venerable of Hard Work” leads the traditional sects in an attack, Lin Wan and his “Anti-Overwork Alliance” take up the Immortal Realm Labor Law and the principles of joyful cultivation to launch the most radical battle the cultivation world has ever seen. They aren’t fighting to destroy anything, but to prove one thing: cultivation can be a lot more fun.
