Lin Wantang, a scholar with an encyclopedic knowledge of Journey to the West, accidentally transmigrates to Five Elements Mountain and discovers that the pilgrimage is a sacrificial scheme devised by the Buddhist and Daoist traditions. The day Sun Wukong becomes a Buddha will be the day he is utterly erased.
She removes the talisman and makes a pact with the Great Sage Equal to Heaven: "I'll help you change your fate, and you'll keep me safe." From then on, an unofficial member of the pilgrimage party who can "spoil" everything joins their journey. Using modern knowledge, she rewrites the tightening spell, awakens the demon clans' former followers, and steals resources from the Heavenly Court. Every step overturns the script laid out for them.
But changing fate comes at the cost of her life force. When the tightening spell shatters and destiny collapses, she falls beneath a peach tree on Flower-Fruit Mountain. Holding her in his arms, Sun Wukong finally lets tears fill his eyes for the first time. "You said you wanted to see the peaches ripen."
This is the story of a woman who refuses to believe in fate and a monkey who refuses to accept it, joining hands to remake heaven and earth.
