A New Dynasty at the End of the Ming: From Coal Hill to Unifying the Realm

In March 1644, Li Zicheng’s forces reached the gates of Beijing, and the Ming Dynasty stood on the brink of collapse. Modern history professor Zhu Youjian transmigrates into the body of the Chongzhen Emperor, Zhu Youjian, only to face a dying city ravaged by plague and plagued by crumbling morale.

Just as everyone expects history to repeat the tragedy of Coal Hill, an entity called the “Ming Revival System” activates the modern knowledge in his mind. He starts by containing the plague, stabilizing the chaos in the capital. Drawing on his deep understanding of late Ming history, he persuades the wavering Wu Sangui to lead his troops to the emperor’s aid, and together they defeat the Dashun army in a coordinated attack from within and without.

But this is only the beginning. He negotiates with the Qing court to buy time, abolishes the “Three Subsidies” to win back the people’s support, improves firearms and rebuilds the army, and pushes land reform that strikes at the heart of the old order. Every step is a dance on the edge of a blade. As volleys of flintlock fire tear through the charge of the Eight Banners’ iron cavalry, steam engines roar through workshops in Jiangnan, and the sails of an ocean fleet fill the waters around Taiwan, the ruler who once hanged himself on Coal Hill leads the ancient empire, step by step, to heights it has never reached before.

This is a history that never made it into the books: a transmigrator uses knowledge and wisdom to write a new beginning for a dying dynasty.
