Apocalypse + Awakening + Power Fantasy
The wasteland apocalypse arrives, and countless races descend upon the world. Humanity awakens supernatural abilities amid blood and fire. Sequence numbers represent talent and potential, with 001 the supreme legend. Lin Ye, a high school senior, awakens at death’s door and becomes the only human with Sequence 001. The whole city celebrates, but he discovers that his perspective is completely different from everyone else’s. In his eyes, everyone bears a blood-red racial label and level, while the “experience points” he gains by hunting monsters set him against all of humanity. He is the “King of All Races” wearing human skin.
After reading the opening chapter, the most arresting thing is not the refreshing feeling of awakening in the apocalypse, but the sense of tearing in the protagonist Lin Ye - he is the "001 sequence" that humans cheer for, and he is also the "king of all races" hidden under human skin. This identity opposition has brought the core of Shuangwen to a new level from the beginning. "Doomsday Wasteland + Arrival of All Races + Sequential Powers" is now a very mature framework for apocalyptic novels. The author did not show off too many skills in the setting, but quickly established a power system using the rule of "serial number = talent potential": 001 is the supreme legend of mankind. Lin Ye's awakening made the whole city revel. This is a typical "Chosen One" opening, and it is easy for readers to take on the protagonist's highlight moments. But soon, the hook was thrown: from Lin Ye's perspective, everyone had blood-red racial markings and levels, and the "experience points" he gained from hunting monsters pushed him to the opposite side of humanity. This setting instantly broke the narrative of "human heroes" and turned Shuangwen from "upgrading and becoming stronger" to "struggle with identity" - is he the savior of mankind or the ruler of all races? This kind of suspense is more attractive than simply killing monsters and upgrading.
This sci-fi apocalyptic novel has a wonderful beginning and a very tight rhythm. It is clearly the highest order of human beings, but all it sees is the label of "monster". The sense of identity dislocation is well grasped. Awakening is the peak, and the peak is the alien. The writing is concise. I recommend reading it!
