Xu He transmigrates and finds herself a lowly cannon-fodder conscript in a Northern Wei military camp. Branded with an inferior status, she has to fight with everything she has just to stay alive.
By chance, she meets Hua Mulan, who has taken her father’s place in the army. Xu He hides her secret, along with the skills she honed as a special operations soldier in her previous life, and seeks a chance to survive in an age of chaos.
She sneaks into the Rouran camp at night and, with extraordinary courage, steals intelligence about their dwindling provisions, giving the whole army the initiative.
During the ambush at Black Wind Pass, she keeps her cool in a crisis, protects Mulan amid the chaos, and even cuts down enemy commanders to break through the encirclement, winning against overwhelming odds and making waves along the frontier!
From a scapegoat everyone could bully to a valiant, free commoner of the Wei army, she fights her way to survival with both brains and courage, becoming the life-and-death confidante Mulan trusts most.
On the Northern Wei frontier, where beacons blaze without end, two women stand side by side.
One is brave and resolute, the other wise and courageous.
They wield their blades as pens and their blood as ink,
writing a legend of two heroines amid the chaos, and taking the military camp by storm!
“Mulan, we’ll defend this land together!”
It's a good read. The book uses history as its bones and love as its soul. The characters are vivid and the layout is broad. It describes the human heart and character in the ups and downs of troubled times. It's a profound and moving book to read.
