Journey to the West: The Jade Emperor Pays Up, and Brother Monkey Rebels After Hearing People's Thoughts

Journey to the West + wild imagination + transmigration

Lin Chuan transmigrates to the world of Journey to the West and becomes the most lowly local deity and jailer under Five Elements Mountain.

He thinks he’ll have to spend five hundred years under the mountain, keeping the monkey company as they chew on iron pellets and copper juice. But on his very first day at work, the Jade Emperor and the Heavenly Master Tongtian both send him secret orders.

“Revive the Chan Sect and secretly sabotage the Buddhists’ grand plan for the Journey to the West. Do a good job, and you can pick any innate spiritual treasure or Nine-Turn Golden Elixir you want!”

Looking at the astronomical “startup costs,” Lin Chuan decides to keep a low profile and play the cunning schemer under the mountain.

Who could have guessed that Sun Wukong, trapped under the mountain, can hear his thoughts!

Outwardly, Lin Chuan says respectfully, “Great Sage, have a peach.”

But in his mind, he rants: [Go ahead and eat! Guanyin will ruin your cultivation foundation tomorrow! Once you put on that headband, you’ll be a dog for Spirit Mountain, doing whatever they tell you. Your life will be over!]

Sun Wukong breaks into a cold sweat on the spot and spits out the iron pellet. Following the directions in Lin Chuan’s thoughts, he secretly cultivates the Chan Sect’s divine arts.

Just as Guanyin arrives at Five Elements Mountain with the headband, a pillar reaching the heavens bursts through the sky!

The Buddha breaks down. “The Journey to the West script has been changed?!”

In Lingxiao Palace, the Jade Emperor gazes at the monkey tearing through Spirit Mountain and cries out excitedly, “Well done, Minister Lin! I’ll give you another hundred million!”
