Jiang Wei: Breaking Through the Three Kingdoms from 253 Onward

First month of 253, Hanzhou.

When Jiang Wei awoke in his military tent, terrible news came from outside: General-in-Chief Fei Yi had been assassinated.

He knew who he was: Jiang Wei, General-in-Chief of Shu Han, a native of Didao in Liangzhou, and Zhuge Liang’s successor.

But he knew he had another identity, too: a military history researcher from 2024, who had worked through the night to finish A Strategic Critique of Shu Han before dying suddenly.

He also knew what would happen next: a great victory at Taoxi in 255, a crushing defeat at Duangu in 256, a retreat to Houhe in 262, and the fall of Shu Han in 263. He himself would be torn apart by mutinous soldiers. His wife and children would all be killed, and his entire family wiped out.

But he knew one more secret: Fei Yi’s death served the hidden agendas of every faction at court. Chen Zhi was waiting to see how things unfolded, Huang Hao was itching to make a move, and Liu Shan was keeping silent.

Outside the tent, the generals awaited his decision. Inside, he looked at the unfamiliar face in the bronze mirror and said quietly:

“From now on, I’m no longer the Jiang Wei who does what he knows cannot be done. I’m the Jiang Wei who will keep Shu Han alive, and keep myself alive.”

From 253 to 275: twenty-two years. From Fei Yi’s assassination to the realm’s return to Han: twenty-two years.

Some called him a warmonger. Others called him a lonely minister from Liangzhou. But when he stood atop the walls of Luoyang and gazed over the vast land beneath him, he could think only of one thing:

Chancellor, I didn’t let you down.
