A Long Light Burns on the Lonely Island

[Republican-Era Intrigue + Two Male Leads + Enemy Spies + Matched and Devoted + Sweet Romance with a Touch of Angst + Happy Ending]

In the twenty-eighth year of the Republic, Shanghai is a city of intrigue, shrouded in layers of mystery.

On the surface, Shen Lingrui is the most pleasure-loving young heir in the foreign concessions, spending every night in revelry and throwing money around without a second thought. In reality, he is the ace intelligence agent “Nightingale,” operating in the shadows.

Huo Lan, meanwhile, is the cold-blooded director of the Operations Bureau, a man feared by all for his ruthless decisiveness.

A heart-stopping assassination at the Paramount Ballroom forces these sworn enemies together.

In everyone's eyes, Director Huo looks at Young Master Shen as if he's already dead, while Young Master Shen looks at Director Huo as if he were the King of Hell himself.

Until a top-secret intelligence leak leaves Shen Lingrui gravely wounded and lying in a pool of blood, certain he is going to die.

The usually icy Director Huo drops to one knee, grips his cold hand with reddened eyes, and says in a trembling voice, “Shen Lingrui, just try dying on me.”

Young Master Shen is stunned. “Director Huo, we're enemies.”

Huo Lan leans down and gives him a restrained yet burning kiss. “That was before. Now, you're my life.”

They trade performances in the dead of night and test each other's sincerity on the edge of a blade, going from bitter rivals to men who entrust their lives to each other.

The long night draws to a close, and dawn finally breaks. They are each other's faith, and each other's one and only love.
