This Slacker Just Wants to Lie Flat, but the System Forces Me to Go to College

“Grandma’s good boy, hurry up and eat this bowl of brown sugar and eggs. Then go get some sun in the yard.” Grandma Lin held out a big rough-porcelain bowl, grinning from ear to ear. “Auntie Li was gossiping outside again, saying I’m a useless fool who freeloads.” Lin Xiaobao mumbled around a mouthful of egg. Gu Yanzhi leaned against the earthen wall, holding a worn-out self-study book on math, physics, and chemistry. He raised an eyebrow and teased her, “You little dummy, solve this quadratic function and I’ll give you half a month’s worth of ration coupons.” “Really?” Lin Xiaobao chewed on her pen. Five minutes later, she slapped a page of work against his chest. “Hand it over!” Lin Xiaobao had planned to spend her whole life in the 1970s playing dumb and lying flat, but then she got stuck with a ridiculous Strong Nation Top Student System. Fail to memorize a text and she got shocked; answer a question correctly and she won pork. To avoid earning work points on the job, and even more importantly, to keep from being struck by lightning, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and work herself to the bone. Little did she know that before long, she’d have the aloof educated youth blushing, and help the entire village land secure jobs.
