Dying by Your Hand Is the Best Ending for Me

A canon-inspired derivative novel based on the “Bu Qi and Yu” pairing from the TV series Zhu Yu

Mad heir × clear-headed woman who transmigrates

She met him with tenderness; he repaid her with a dead end.

On my first day after transmigrating, I rescued a madman from a freezing pool.

He was unconscious from drowning, so I gave him CPR. Only later did I learn he was the heir of the Changxin Prince’s Manor, disfigured for years and ruthless enough to kill without a second thought.

When he woke, he gripped my throat and asked, “Who sent you?”

“You were drowning, so I rescued you. That’s all.”

He stared at me for a long time. His gaze was like that of a drowning man clutching at a piece of driftwood.

Only later did I learn that when he was four, his birth mother had held his face against a brazier and disfigured him. From then on, he feared fire, light, and anyone seeing his scars. The monthly skin treatments were worse than death, and when he had an episode at night, he curled up like a child.

I was the only person who had seen him vulnerable, so he went mad trying to keep me by his side.

I ran for five years, hiding my identity and raising his son.

He searched for five years, changed his face, removed his mask, and entered my tavern as a stranger.

“Qianqian,” he said, “I’ve come to take you both home.”

I chained him up. I held a dagger to him. And in the end...

I personally fed him that cup of poison.

He smiled as he drank it down, then took my hand. “To die by your hand is the best ending I could ask for.”
