In 2025, Lin Yuan, a Chinese submarine engineer, was carrying out a secret mission in the South China Sea when his vessel passed through the Devil’s Triangle and was caught in a spacetime storm, transmigrating him to 1889. He awakens as a student sent abroad by the Qing Dynasty’s Self-Strengthening faction, using his knowledge of the future to survive amid the encroaching foreign powers. To escape the ravages of war and find his way home, he leads a multinational band of exiles. Beneath the Antarctic ice sheet, they discover ancient ruins and use them as a base to build a submarine beyond anything from any era: the Ghost. But the ship draws more than the hunters of its time. It also attracts an alien presence that has lain dormant beneath the ice for millions of years, as well as forces from the future, all eyeing the “impossible” submarine.
