His Obsession and Her Strawberry Scent

I once thought I was just a stand-in for his first love.

Gu Huaizhi kept me for three years. He called me “Weiwei,” loved me in white dresses, loved that I didn’t like cilantro, and loved how flustered I got when I was caught in the rain.

I obediently played the part of another woman just so I could stay by his side and live one more day.

I had congenital heart disease. I needed money, and I needed the heart of a man I could never warm.

Then his true first love returned to the country.

He handed me a card, his tone indifferent. “Su Nian, move out. She has a weak heart and can’t stand seeing you.”

I smiled and moved out without telling him that my heart was nearly dead too.

I also didn’t tell him that the little girl from the orphanage he had been searching for over the past ten years, the girl who had saved his life, was me. It had always been me.

Later, a matching heart became available at the hospital.

I knelt and begged him to give me my life back.

But he signed the papers and gave the heart to his “first love.”

The moment the surgical lights went out, Gu Huaizhi finally saw the bracelet I had clutched in my hand.

He rushed in like a madman.

But I could no longer hear him.

Three years later, at an international jewelry exhibition,

I smiled calmly with my arm linked through Fu Shen’s.

The man who had once stood high above everyone else knelt before me in public, his eyes red and his voice trembling.

“Su Nian, I’m not asking you to forgive me. I only want to ask you… could this heart beat for me one more time?”
