There’s a forgotten building in the old quarter of Qingzhou City.
Seven stories tall, with gray-white walls and twenty-eight windows, not a light has shone from it in twenty years. Yet on rainy nights, passersby say they can hear children singing nursery rhymes, a woman combing her hair, and an elevator moving up and down by itself. That elevator was decommissioned ten years ago.
