A Doctor's Lifetime

From the grueling training grounds of military camp to the dissection labs of medical school, A Mao spends two chapters of his youth living up to the same calling: protecting others. After leaving the military, he returns to medical school, carrying the resilience and composure he learned in the army into his white coat. Alongside his classmates, he battles life-and-death emergencies in the training hospital’s ER and brings comfort to villagers through community clinics. He stays up late poring over case files, spends all night watching over patients in the ICU, withstands misunderstandings between doctors and patients, and holds fast to his calling. There is no golden finger, only a soldier’s sense of responsibility and a doctor’s compassion. From defending his country to saving lives, from an inexperienced student to a qualified doctor, he spends his life honoring the oath to dedicate himself to health and entrust his patients’ lives to his care, writing a stirring coming-of-age epic about Chinese doctors.
