My Rift Can Change Lives

Cracks are wounds in the real world.

When someone's regret grows so heavy that reality can no longer "contain" it, reality splits open.

That opening is a crack.

The entrance to a crack might be a dream, a mirror, an elevator, or a vehicle…

If you pay close attention, you'll discover that this world is full of cracks, and every crack is the beginning of a change in the world.

Have you ever thought:

If I could go back to that day, I wouldn't make the same choice.

Shen Mo had. More than once.

Three months ago, his father urgently needed a hundred thousand yuan for surgery, so he took out a loan from a loan shark. The interest ballooned to three hundred thousand, and the debt collectors called his daughter's school. That night, he drove out to beg them for leniency. Then he took a phone call, lost control, and hit someone.

The person lay in a pool of blood, staring at him.

He fell to his knees and roared, "I wish this were all a dream!"

Then he woke up.

It was three in the morning. The date on his phone read: three months ago.

His father hadn't had the surgery yet. There was no one on that crosswalk. There was still time to set everything right.

He thought he had merely had a vivid nightmare.

Until he discovered that the debt collector's number from the dream was exactly the same as in real life. The threatening text from the dream arrived word for word. The person from the dream was walking down the street, alive and well.

It hadn't been a dream.

It was a crack.

Cracks are wounds in the real world. When life pushes you to the edge and you cry out with all your strength, "I wish this weren't real," time splits open, letting you go back and choose again.

This is a story about regrets that won't fade, written for everyone who has ever lain awake regretting something.
