The Retired Divine Doctor’s Fish-Selling Days

Chen Ping'an was once the “Dark Night Medicine Immortal,” a famed healer who roamed Eurasia. One needle could save a life; one dose of medicine could take one. Tired of fighting and killing, he walked away from it all and returned to the bustling city, where he became an ordinary fishmonger at the market.

His ambitions were simple: gut fish, drink wine, and occasionally gaze dreamily at He Xiangning, the pretty widow who ran the steamed bun shop next door.

But trouble found him even as he sat at his fish stall.

Daoqiang, the butcher, came to extort protection money, only to be knocked flat by Chen Ping'an with a single swing of his weighing pole.

An old woman shopping for vegetables suddenly suffered a heart attack. He gave her a casual press, and she sprang to her feet. From then on, a long line formed outside the market every day, with people waiting for him to take their pulses.

Then one day, a group of men in black suits stormed into the market. They bowed deeply to the blood-soaked girl beside him. “Medicine Immortal, please save our family patriarch!”

Chen Ping'an chopped off a fish's head, his expression blank. “How many times do I have to say it? Line up if you want to buy fish.”
