My Little Courtyard Became a Retirement Home for Rare Animals

Urban countryside + adorable animals + lighthearted comedy + livestreaming everyday life + people and nature

Tired of the city's bustle, Chen Bei returns to a mountain village to enjoy a lie-flat life in a small courtyard. On his very first day in the mountains, a pregnant panda mother moves into his woodshed of her own accord and gives birth to three cubs. Forced to become their “nanny,” he starts livestreaming to earn money for formula.

One winter night, a wolf pack goes on a rampage. Chen Bei wins over the alpha wolf with his “virtue” and treats its injuries, after which the pack starts “checking in” outside his courtyard to guard it. He also finds an injured golden eagle chick named Marshal. Once grown, Marshal circles overhead, unwilling to leave. One day, Chen Bei wakes to find a tiger cub named Ah Huang in the courtyard. A red fox mother even brings him her four cubs, asking him to be their “dad”...

Before long, pandas, wolves, a golden eagle, a tiger, and an entire red fox family have gathered in the courtyard. Chen Bei cries out, “Oh no! How did my home become a retirement home for rare animals?!”

From nighttime raids by poachers to evacuations during flash floods, from accusations across the internet to official recognition, Chen Bei and the animals face life-and-death trials together. In the end, the courtyard becomes a national “Model Zone for Coexistence with Wildlife.” Sitting on the doorstep with a cup of tea, watching the precious animals basking in the sun, he sighs, “All I wanted was to lie flat. Who knew it would turn out like this? Still... it's pretty great.”
