Don't Say I Love You

In 2017, on the set of The Legend of Chu Qiao, after filming the scene at the frozen lake, the two of them sat there for a long time without saying a word.

That was the first time Lin Gengxin fell for Zhao Liying. But he didn't say so.

She sensed it. She didn't respond, either.

Over the next seven years, they each went through career highs and lows and built separate lives. But the thread connecting them never broke: late-night calls, pointless messages, and quiet company through their darkest moments. They were the “only people each other could talk to,” but neither crossed that line.

In 2024, The Legend of Shen Li brought them together again. Their seven years of unspoken understanding became impossible for everyone to ignore. Trending topics, variety shows, interviews: everyone wanted to know, “What exactly is your relationship?”

They still didn't say.

In 2026, both were taking a break and living in Beijing. With no work keeping them apart, every meeting could only be because they “wanted to see each other.” They began going out to eat, chatting late into the night, and spending the night at each other's homes. Like friends, like friends with benefits, like soulmates. Just not like a couple.

Then came the day they were photographed. The story blew up online, their teams started calling, and everyone waited for a response.

She asked him, “What do we do?”

He said, “What do you want to do?”

She thought for a long time, then said, “I don't want to hide anymore.”

He replied with one word: “Okay.”

There was no confession, no promise, no “Be my girlfriend.” But it had taken them seven years to get here.

This isn't a story about “I love you.” It's a story about “I'm here.”
