[A sharp-tongued, independent heroine who refuses to trust men but is secretly a hopeless romantic] X [A down-and-out rich kid forced to repay his debts, secretly sensitive and responsible]
Zhu Miao, a twenty-nine-year-old boy-band manager, makes her way alone in the big city. Though highly capable, she is constantly pressured to marry by her family and society, like an iron tree that will never bloom. Just before her thirtieth birthday, she meets Ye Yu, who is six years younger.
Twenty-four-year-old Ye Yu is a down-and-out rich kid. After his family business went bankrupt, he was left with the workers’ unpaid wages to cover. He dropped out of college to work off the debt, taking on job after job like a model laborer. Zhu Miao often ends up ruining his work for one reason or another, and the two seem destined to keep crossing paths.
The first time they meet, Zhu Miao takes the bike Ye Yu uses to deliver food to protect her own celebrity from a scandal. Ye Yu loses his job because she has stolen his bike.
Zhu Miao calls into the bakery, apologetic: “Sorry, delivery driver inside! Can I borrow your bike? I’ll bring it back soon!”
Ye Yu runs outside, but the bike is already gone. “Huh? How am I supposed to make my deliveries?”
The second time they meet, Zhu Miao gets drunk at a bar and calls for a ride home. The driver who shows up is Ye Yu, working a part-time job.
Ye Yu rolls down the window and looks out. “Are you Ms. Zhu? Hmm… It’s you!”
Sitting in the car, Zhu Miao’s stomach churns. “Ugh… bleh…”
Ye Yu loses another job…
(The first few chapters are told from both characters’ perspectives. If you’re not used to that, please be patient. Thank you all for choosing this story. I’ll keep updating diligently. Thanks again, everyone.)
