Fuxian Lake in Yunnan is unfathomably deep. Beneath its vast, glassy waters lies a secret that could shake the world.
Five years ago, explorer Lin Mo's brother vanished while searching for an ancient city on the lakebed. All he left behind was a notebook with faded, mottled writing. Its final page read: “There are eyes at the bottom of the lake. They're watching me... They're not corpses. They're waiting.”
Five years later, Lin Mo returns, unable to let go of the past, only to be drawn into an even stranger vortex. In the deep blue water stands a “submerged pyramid” built of massive stones, along with a circular structure resembling the Colosseum of ancient Rome. And deep in that cursed stretch of water, countless “corpses” hang upright like marionettes on strings. The male corpses lean forward, the female ones backward, their faces lifelike, as if they have merely fallen into an eternal sleep.
Is this a natural “human corpse repository,” or a lost sacrificial city of the ancient Dian Kingdom? When Lin Mo ventures into the abyss, he discovers that these corpses are not lifeless remains, but terrifying beings caught between life and death. They are waiting for a “key” that can break a thousand-year-old curse.
When a band of tomb raiders breaks in, the seal at the bottom of the lake is shattered. The sleeping “tomb guardians” awaken, and underwater beasts tear through the currents. Before this ancient power can assimilate him, Lin Mo must uncover the truth at the deepest point of Fuxian Lake: a shocking conspiracy of sacrifice, betrayal, and eternal life.
When a strange golden halo rises over the lake once more, Lin Mo finally understands that to stop this calamity spanning a thousand years, he must make the cruelest choice: flee with the secret, or become the eternal guardian of this underwater city of the dead.
A very interesting book and very nice to read
