King of the Xing'anling Hunters

Introduction to The Hunting King of the Greater Khingan Range Set against the vast, ancient wilderness of the Greater Khingan Range, The Hunting King of the Greater Khingan Range tells the epic story of Mo Rigen, an Oroqen youth who grows from a lone hunter into a legendary hunting king, uniting the forest tribes and protecting the land. In this untamed sea of forest, where there are no officials or laws, the tribes survive through their pacts, and the forest is their mother. Mo Rigen inherits his forebears’ hunting skills and their ancestral teaching to protect the mountains. Guided by the belief that “hunt without greed, kill with restraint,” he makes a stunning impression on his very first hunt, and remains true to his principles by rescuing people stranded in a blizzard. As poachers run rampant, wildfires and floods strike, and the tribes fall into constant conflict, his exceptional courage, uncanny tracking skills, and sense of justice help him resolve one crisis after another and unite the tribes. In time, he is honored as the Hunting King of the Greater Khingan Range, entrusted with upholding their pact and safeguarding the peace of the forest. When the Northern Di threaten the frontier and the land is in peril, Mo Rigen lays down his hunting bow and leads the forest tribes in ambushes among the trees and battles against the enemy in snowy valleys, protecting the border with their very lives. As the years pass, he puts violence behind him, plants trees and protects the mountains, and passes on the ways of safeguarding the forest, ensuring that the belief in “living in harmony with the forest” endures for generations. Set against the wind and snow of the forest, the novel paints a picture of how ancient forest tribes survived. It tells of the Hunting King’s reverence for nature, his devotion to the pact, and his boundless loyalty to the land, revealing a steadfast sense of honor and duty that transcends the ages and keeps the forest’s thousand-year-old heritage alive through legend.
