A Long and Lingering Collection of Essays

Introduction to The Long Echo of Bitterness: An Essay Collection The Long Echo of Bitterness is a collection of essays that captures the truth of everyday life. The author sets sail on a vessel made of words, carrying half a lifetime of experience and reflections on the land and its rivers. From the vast forests of Longjiang to the warmth of his ancestral home in Qilu, he finds poetry amid the rough-and-tumble days of forestry work and draws out deep feeling from the creases of everyday life. The prose is not painstakingly polished, yet it has a simple strength of its own. Write of the wind in the forest, and you can hear the pines roar; write of the moon over his homeland, and its clear radiance seems to fall across your clothes. Write of life’s “bitterness,” and there is no resentment, only the gentle aftertaste that time leaves behind. Rather than piling on ornate language, the author uses plain, straightforward words to sketch a world of wide-open landscapes and everyday warmth, revealing deep feeling in the ordinary and quiet substance in the unadorned. It does not pander to the clamor of the world, yet amid today’s fast pace, it offers the heart a place to rest. Open the book, and it feels as though you are sitting down for an easy chat with the author, listening to him talk about the roads he has traveled, the people he has met, and the thoughts he has gathered along the way. His reflections on time, home, and growing up carry the weight of the years, yet still speak to the subtle emotions of people today. “Bitterness” is the undertone of life, “resonance” is its sweet aftertaste, and “lasting” is the echo between words and the passing years. In its unassuming way, this essay collection holds the most genuine flavors of human life. It is meant to be savored in quiet moments, so that between the lines you may encounter another version of yourself and experience life in its purest form.
