[Dual female leads ※ BE ※ alternate fantasy]
On her eighteenth birthday, Chen Xinglin receives a vintage wristwatch with a mirror set into it. As she complains to her reflection about being lonely, her consciousness is pulled into a world of eternal blue.
There, a girl with gray hair and golden eyes named Baita holds an identical watch. Her world is called Find When, where time is visible and tangible. Currents of time flow across the sky, and heart clocks beat in harmony with their owners’ hearts. Baita is the daughter of a time researcher, and spends her days among clocks calibrated to measure time. These two abandoned girls discover each other on opposite sides of the mirror.
Chen Xinglin tells Baita about Earth, where the sky turns dark and bright, and where sunsets and stars appear. Baita takes Chen Xinglin through temporal corridors, the harmonies of sound clocks, and time-sensitive cuisine that preserves a fleeting moment. They promise to watch the once-in-an-era “Time Sound Festival” together, and see fireworks of time bloom across the sky in an eternal instant.
But when the promised day arrives, Chen Xinglin finds the world collapsing. The time-reset device has gone out of control, and Find When’s currents of time are breaking apart. In the final moments of their escape, Baita has only one request: “Let me see the sunset you told me about.”
A borrowed dusk, a bustling night market, a quiet riverside, and three minutes of earthly beauty. Before her energy runs out and their connection is severed forever, Baita whispers, “Thank you for letting me see something that comes to an end. I understand now. What is fleeting can make every moment shine.”
When Chen Xinglin finally transmigrates back, all she sees is a silent, lifeless world covered in the embers of time, and the girl holding a wisp of preserved sunset as she smiles and dissolves into particles of light.
Ripples of two souls now have reached our double slits
Casting stripes of light and dark in the world as days and nights
You set me free under the sun
I fly your cradle dreams to the moon and back
By the way, does the author write everything first and then publish it? [What]
It's a very subtle idea. Baita and Xinglin only met three times but they met and understood each other because of the same disease. Time is not only a concept, but also the testimony of two people. Personally, I think the writing is quite excellent, whether it's the friendship between the two or the idea of "Fing When" in the world.
