Snowfall in the Capital, an Old Friend Returns

On the night they broke up, heavy snow fell over the capital.

He stood before her in silence for a long time before finally forcing out the words: “My family has made the arrangements… I have to get married.”

She froze. Her eyes stung, but she still managed a smile and softly murmured, “Mm.”

He looked at her, his voice lowering. “You can have the house and the savings. Is there anything else you want?”

She shook her head, afraid to speak in case she burst into tears.

Some time later, news of his wedding reached her.

Some time after that, she stood outside the hospital, clutching her pregnancy test results as snow began to fall again.

She remembered that winter when he waited for her in the snow for two hours, smiling as he said, “I’m not going home until I see you.”

Now he really wasn’t coming back.
