Please, Just Let Me Lay Low

During the Sixteen Kingdoms of the Five Barbarians, the world was in chaos, and human lives were worth next to nothing.

Li Guian, a graduate student in history, transmigrated into this era. The moment he opened his eyes, his father and brother had just died, and refugees were surrounding the fortified village. While people beyond its walls were “eating their own children,” this crumbling stronghold was the only place he could call home.

Fortunately, he knew how to cultivate farmland, build irrigation, and wring out a chance at survival in the direst circumstances.

When bandits came, he led the old and weak in defending the high ground. When famine struck, he took the women and children to scour the hills for food. While corpses littered the land in every direction, the sound of children reading aloud rang out from his stronghold.

The chaotic age tried to swallow him, but he turned his fortress into the only hearth for a hundred li in every direction.

Some urged him to claim a throne and vie for supremacy. He shook his head. “I’m building a fortified village, not a graveyard.”

All he wanted was to let those who wished to live make it through alive.
