The Prince Is Addicted to Pretending to Be Paralyzed

Everyone in the capital knew that Prince Chen, who had been paralyzed for three years and was notoriously violent-tempered, had married a husband brought in to bring him good fortune.

The young husband was meek and timid. He served the prince medicine every day, yet could not even earn a proper glance from him.

No one knew that, late at night, the “cripple” would rise from his bed and gaze deeply at the person sleeping beside him.

He was waiting: for his good-luck husband to show his true colors, and for the mastermind behind it all to lose patience.

Then one night, he saw with his own eyes as that “meek” young husband pulled a packet of powder from his robes and emptied it into the medicine bowl.

Prince Chen's thin lips curled into a scornful smile. He was about to spring his trap and seize the man.

But then the young husband lifted the bowl and drank every last drop himself. He clambered onto the prince's bed on all fours, straddled him with red-rimmed eyes, and said:

“Your Highness, how much longer are you going to pretend to be paralyzed?”

“If you don't get better soon, I'll have to drink all this gut-rotting poison myself...”

Before he could finish, tears plopped onto the prince's face.

Prince Chen, who had not moved in three years, curled one finger ever so slightly.
