Nie Lei: The Road of the Jianghu

In 1989, at the Dayao Gou docks, twenty-two-year-old Nie Lei takes on Liu Dabangg, who has controlled the docks for a decade, with nothing but a crowbar, all to defend an old porter he has never met. By that night, all of Qingdao knows his name. From then on, the underworld has one more meddlesome soul. Ten yuan for a life, three yuan for a meal: he gets involved in more and more affairs, gathers more and more followers, and makes more and more enemies. Some call him a madman; others call him a real man. He says, “In times like these, someone has to stand tall and live.”
