After Signing the Surgical Consent Form, She Turned Around and Had an Abortion

He signed my consent form for an induced labor with his own hand, just to use my liver to save the woman he loved.

On the operating table, I smiled and said, “The pregnancy test is in the changing-room locker.”

He was silent for five seconds. “Anesthesiologist, prepare for surgery.”

He didn't know that I was type A, while the woman he loved was type O.

She didn't need a liver. She needed his bone marrow.

The day I was discharged, I took the access password to his liver donor database.

At airport security, he caught up with me. “You can't leave!”

I turned back with a smile. “Director Gu, I implanted a genetic marker in that liver of yours. If she needs anti-rejection drugs, she'll have to buy them from me.”

Three years later, I returned to China as the chairwoman of a medical foundation.

He knelt in the rain and begged me to get the trending story taken down.

Trapped in an elevator, he begged me to listen to him say he was sorry.

I said, “When the elevator dropped, I was thinking: if I die here, it'll be so unlucky to have the words ‘ex-wife’ carved on my tombstone.”

He uncovered the fake compatibility report for the woman he loved and handed it to me on his knees.

After reading it, I said, “Get up. Aren't your knees tired?”

Later, his hospital was acquired, and he applied for a residency position.

I interviewed him. “Briefly describe how to manage rejection after a liver transplant.”

When he finished answering, I nodded. “Next.”

At the hospital-wide meeting, the big screen showed a news screenshot of him signing the consent form for my induced labor.

He stood and bowed. “That was me. I'm sorry.”

I said to my assistant, “His acting has improved.”

He spent a month on rotation in the morgue, while patients' families berated him to his face for half an hour.

At a volunteer awards ceremony, he publicly confessed, “My name is Gu Xiuyuan. I signed the consent form for my ex-wife's induced labor with my own hand.”

Down in the audience, my eyes reddened.
