She stayed up all night reading, only to be furious when the story ended terribly. When she woke up, she had become the novel's most miserable cannon-fodder character.
Shen Ci looked down at the “love token” in her hand, a secondhand jade hairpin from a pawnshop, then at the scumbag male lead gazing at her with deep affection, and her white-lotus half-sister waiting in the corner to “bump into” him.
She smiled.
In the original story, the heroine was swindled out of her money and virtue by that despicable pair, then died miserably in the Cold Palace. Even as she lay dying, she kept calling, “Third Prince, I'll wait for you.”

Shen Ci flung the hairpin to the ground. “Your Highness, Third Prince, you can keep this secondhand trinket.”

She thought she could coast to victory by clinging to the Regent's coattails. Who knew that this supposedly sickly imperial uncle would start looking at her in a rather peculiar way?
“Who dares lay a hand on someone who belongs to me?”
Shen Ci: ?? Wasn't this supposed to be a mutually beneficial arrangement?
Later, she discovered that the original story's great villain was actually the true male lead the author had planted but never written about.
As for that scumbag
“Your Highness, I personally crushed your male-lead halo.”

This ridiculous plot? I'll rewrite it myself.
First, punish the scumbags. Second, make money. Third... stay away from love-brained fools and be the heroine of my own story.
